December 2020/January 2021
Mtu Wa Mbu Bible School
1. Preparation for graduation has begun. We have received a budget from the school of what is needed.
2. Applications for new students are being taken. Currently there are 46 students who wish to join the school.
3. Students were taken to Clinic for renewal of health insurance.
4. We obtained a permit to cut a downed tree for construction of new desks and chairs. Construction has begun on these items.
5. Brady Johnson, the director of the school for the last two years completed his term. Starting in February of 2021, Greg Dixon will be the new director of the school.
Under the Tree School
1. Construction of the new Under the Tree School has been completed. It was given to the children of Mongere Village as a gift. Their teacher Sokia will be the Headmaster of the school. Smiley Hands Tanzania will assist in fund raising efforts. We will coordinate with Sokia and Smiley Hands as needs arise.
2. When the travel ban is lifted, we will be going to the school, assessing needs, and joining with them in education.
Hog Project
1. Hog project is going well. 7 baby hogs were born in December. There was one death, so the total of babies born now is 6 but all are growing strong.
Neema Women’s Group (Morogoro Sewing Ladies)
1. The Neema Women’s Group is doing very well. They have established a bank account and a business license.
2. They have finished with the education of learning how to sew and are now in business.
3. They have secured space in the market through a vendor who will sell their bags and items.
4. We have packaged some bags and sent them through the mail to the U.S. to see if they would arrive and if they did, how long would it take. This mailing was in December. The bags have not arrived as of January 25, 2021.
5. The Neema Women’s Group travelled to Talawanda. Their task was to measure and make 46 school uniforms for the Talawanda Pre-Primary School. These uniforms will be delivered this week, the week of January 25th to the school.
6. Uniforms consist of shoes, socks, pants/dresses, and button-down shirts. All students were measured.
Talawanda Pre-Primary School
1. School began on January 11th. Safari Project has partnered with the school board and the local government to provide meals for the students each day. Students receive fruit in the morning, rice and beans or porridge for lunch.
2. We have hired a widow to be the lunch lady there and she is doing a great job.
3. We purchased pots, pans, plates, spoons, forks, cups, and additional items for the work there.
4. We have purchased two months supply of rice, beans, tea, salt, pepper, onions and other items. We have been able to go to market and purchase bulk items for better pricing.
5. Safari Project has provided all needed school materials for the students. Notebooks, pencils, crayons, ect. They request a pencil sharpener and that is being sought. When found we will purchase it.
6. Had a meeting with the school board of Talawanda in January to confirm their support and our ability to operate there within the school. The school board is very happy with our presence there.
7. Fouston is making a daily journey to the school to be our representative there. He is in need of a motorcycle. The journey is long, and we also need to have ability to go to market when needed. The motorcycle is $600.00.
8. Morris and Gasper are doing a good job securing good prices in the market and getting transportation for these things to the school.
