Received a call fom Talawanda that the purchasing of childrens items may take some time. We will have to go to Lugoba and to Dar Es Salaam. Gasper will go down on the 5th but it will be one days travel. That will only leave 4 days before school begins to have all supplies. So we agreed that we should send Peter today to begin the work of finding the items. We discssed the cost of all items. Shoes, socks, shirt, pants, underclothes, gym wear, hankerchief, school supplies, rain boots, transportation, math set. We also discussed gas to Talawanda, Bus ticket for Gasper to get home as he is leaving our van there so the children can be transported to school. Also, lunch for the journey, rice for children, picture of African president required in our office, table and chairs for office. All of these items came to a total of $829.00. We are purchasing for 17 children. 11 in our care and 6 who are in the village who cannot provide anything for themselves.
Mr. Kimolo will come from Arusha with Gasper to be a driver for the children. He is a good man and will drive until I can arrive and we send Peter to driving school. We will stop on the way and get rice from Magugu where we buy it cheap. We will also stop in Babati and pick up Asha. She will go down and assist Naomi in caring for the children. Asha is a single mother with a small child. She has no mother or father anymore. She is a kind woman and she will be a good helper there.
All children have mosquito nets. Included in the $829.00 is two mattresses, two mosquito nets, 4 bed sheets, for Asha and Mr. Kimolo. We must also build two bed frames of wood.
Mary will join the Mosquito River Bible School as a cook. She wanted the job in Talawanda but she is somehow sick at times. We did not want to send her far from her doctor so it was a blessing when a cook was needed in Mosquito River. She will do a great job there. We spent a lot of time discussing the budget and how to reduce cost. We talked about food prices around the region and when to purchase certain items due to the cost being low at certain times of the year. We discussed transportation of items. We discussed Talawanda School lunch program and the items needed to feed the children at the school. We have a need for storage and we have a need to buy in bulk to get better prices as well.
I spoke with a representative of Healing Hands International. We discussed how we each operate. We had a great conversation and I am making an appointment with their director in Nashville so we can sit down and discuss possible projects and cooperations. Discussed other solutions for construction and job creation.
