January/February Report 2021

Talawanda Pre-Primary School

1. All 46 students are receiving breakfast and lunch. Students received a new school uniform. Lunch Lady is doing well.

2. I spoke with the teacher Madam Miriam. She is very well spoken and kind. She has a deep knowledge of the difficulties facing children in rural areas. We paid her $40 dollars for the month. $1.33 per day.

3. Purchased more school supplies in Dar Es Salaam and delivered to the school including a pencil sharpener.

4. There are 34 more students who have turned in applications to join the school.

5. 20 more are asking for applications. The total number of children in school or asking to attend has risen to 100.

6. We are working with the school board to solve the issue as the goal is no child is turned away.

7. Because of the number of students, we have added a second teacher for the school. Her name is Anna, and she is a college graduate. We are lucky to get her. She will receive $40 dollars each month. She will move to the village with her three children from Babati. This is about 7 to 8 hours from her home. She is thankful for the position. Please pray for Miriam and Anna. Pray for the children of the village, those attending and those wishing to attend. Pray for the families as life is very hard there.

to me

Hello brothers, I hope this will find you well, this is emergency report from Talawanda nursery school. Today we had visited the school to see how the kids are doing and how the project is going on,we were there with district education coordinator,,first they appreciate for that we are doing, and requested us to continue to support the society.but there are four main challenge s that he asked us to help in urgent is we can:(1)those kids need carpets to sit and sleep on,right now they sit and sleep on the bare ground,, its sad and some how inhuman, so he requested if we may help on that,(2)playing balls,,sir after they have breakfast, they have to take a sleep for one hour then they are going to play before they get lunch, so because they don’t have those balls, other kids are using that time to run home. (3)they are still young so they are using exercise books but also they need piece of wood 1ft×1ft,,that will help them in writing skills. Those things I mentioned above are needed in very urgent if we may be able to help. But other thing that I noticed was that class room,,its some how danger to those kids, I will send you pics of that building so that you can see how its look like.

9. I met with the school board and district commissioner via What’s App and we discussed the email. After the discussion, Safari Project agreed that the need is urgent, and the fund was made available immediately.

10.This was not in the budget, but we will hope to make up the shortfall at a later date as this need was pressing.

This is the estimate of the cost:

12.After the children leave the Talawanda Pre-Primary School the education stops as there is no other school in the community. We hope to improve this issue.

13.For the Month of March all school support has been sent. Food is purchased. Teachers are paid. We are good for one more month.

Hog Project in Talawanda

1. Hog Project goes very well. Nothing new to report but that all hogs are well.

Morogoro – Neema Women’s Group

1. The ladies have a business license and a bank account.

2. Each lady contributes to the business account each month.

3. They have secured market space for items they sew in Dar Es Salaam.

4. They completed all 46 school uniforms – the project went well.

5. I will meet with the ladies in person in April concerning this project and other projects.

Mtu Wa Mbu Bible School

1. Preparations for our graduating class are underway. We always have many people join in the festivities of graduation.

2. The School purchased a cow from the herd of Malik. It will serve as food for the event. It will be delivered Saturday morning on the 27th of February.

3. We have many applications from new students.

4. Mosquito nets and sheets are old and no longer capable of protection. New ones are needed. Due to the number of students, the sheets are not enough.

5. I, Brady Johnson, have served two years as Mtu Wa Mbu Bible School director. I stepped down as scheduled and a new director will be chosen after graduation. I will focus efforts towards the Talawanda Pre-Primary School and Shamba Projects in the Morogoro Region. I will assist as instructor at the Mtu Wa Mbu Bible School. It has been a pleasure to serve the students at the school and I look forward to working with the school as an instructor in the future.

Van

1. Our van has been very valuable to us. Gasper has travelled to Talawanda on several occasions to meet with school officials, deliver uniforms, and pick-up school supplies.

2. Several repairs had to be made to the van on the road. The suspension and a new tire. Several parts welded and replaced.

3. We do not have first gear anymore. This is a problem on the hills.

4. Our van was used in an emergency on 2/12/2021 at around 2 a.m. TZ time when a young woman fell. She was injured and unconscious. We were contacted so we sent the van to her and transported her to the hospital. She is recovering.

5. Also, the van will be used to transport traditional leaders from the village to the school for graduation.

6. Graduation was completed and all went well.

Shamba Projects

1. It is time for planting. We hired a tractor for Tanga and a dozier in Talawanda.

2. The fund for this work was generated by the recent harvest. All workers were paid, seed is ready. We believe that our ability to plant and harvest is very good.

3. Planning some tree planting. Additionally, workers were instructed not to cut trees or take them down in Talawanda.

4. The farmers in the co-op last year have done very well. Three of them are off on their own. This is a good thing as they have become completely independent.

Medical

1. Assisted the young woman who fell with medical aid. We will assist her with iron tablets, high iron food such as green vegetables, red meat, liver, and citrus juice. She did not have the ability to obtain the items although her doctors suggest them to her. She said she is very thankful.

In General

1. We paid 150.00 to the power company as a contribution from our organization to bring power poles and power to the village. All members of the community contributed something.

2. Life is very hard in the area now. Prices are very high especially oil and sugar. Cement is also very high.

3. We have need of a motorcycle. Cost is $600. This is so we can deliver fruit daily to the school and get to market.

4. Planning to get a water tap on our land in Talawanda.

5. Made the connection to Mwanza to the Agorazu Elementary School for a computer to be delivered to the school. It will be used for many things but primarily for teaching English. Their teacher is Anthony Christopher.
