The last few weeks have been very busy as we made many trips to Dar Es Salaam conducting business. We have hosted officials from various offices inspecting our facilities and surveying the land. We have started work on several roads into the property. These roads will divide the land and create our perimeter. We have been very busy with administrative duties and appointments. We were inspected and the inspection was great. Pineapples and banana’s are growing well. Our houses are clean and well maintained. Peter has cleaned up the fence line down the new road. I am very thankful for his hard work and effort as that fence was unkept and tangled. All the children are well. Rehema has met with her doctors and her report is good. The health of all the children is improving. Our menu is stabilizing now that our chickens are full grown and our store is full. Currently our kids can eat three chickens on Monday and three on Thursday. Our allowance was 4 but the small children did not eat as much as we projected so we are happy to reduce the number because all children are eating until they have enough. We have 9 months of rice and beans. We have 3 months of Ugali. Our water bill has slightly increased. The last two months we paid $70. This month however it came back down to $40.
Another big snake was snared in a trap on our land. It was 13+ foot python. The hunters became afraid because of its size and ran away. This is the 2nd 13 plus python found on the land. Also, the snare was dangerous in some ways to the children. We are not opposed hunting or foraging on the land but we asked the village not to set snares within our compound. In addition to that….just this morning as the herdsmen were on our land, their dog was killed by a third large python. The herdsmen were very small boys less than 9 years old. They were frightened and ran to us and we inspected the site. We know this snake will return within 3 days to consume his prey. So our people are watching. When he comes, we will attack.
