One of the things I'm so excited about is how much our children want to be a part of all we do. They want to learn and insert themselves into every aspect of what is going on. I found it interesting they picked up on my dissatisfaction with a lost or dropped nail. On occasion, during the hammering process, a nail went flying away from the project. I did not like to lose the nail. So we made a rule...all nails had to be recovered, even if it slowed down the project. One reason for the recovery is they are hard to get and second, they cost money. I want our workers to understand that this nail is valuable, worth recovering, straightening, and putting back into the project. Once the kids saw we wanted the nails recovered, they waited and watched. As a nail would fly away, they sprang into action to find it. They raced to see who would get to it first. Once found, it was straightened and returned in good condition. At times it would take some skill as the nail would be badly abused. But, they returned it straight. It wasn't just the nails. We purchased 2000 pineapple seeds from a farmer. We were glad to get them at a very good deal. We wanted to make the most of the deal and didn't want one seed to go bad. So hard, quick work was required. We had to dig 2000 holes, transport as many seeds ect. ect. as you can see. Once planted, rain did not come quickly. So watering was necessary. We had to water all the seeds by hand. Every other day we watered until the rain came. It was no small chore but we did not lose a pineapple. These pineapples will be important to us for nutrition and income.
I am pleased with the good work ethic they have. I am also pleased with their willingness to take on the task, nailing every nail, planting every seed. We want to bring them up with these skills and abilities. We want them to be motivated and work with good attitudes even when the job is not inviting. In a few years these will be grown men and women. They will change their community for the better. Many of them will be employers of people and have great influence. They will demonstrate Christian values in their daily grind and lift others when the opportunity comes. We see a small seed being planted but it may be that God is planting a forest. He is building a house with the nail we thought we lost. I can't always see the end result, but I do trust that God is using us, by following Him, to accomplish something great. Our lives on this earth are only a breath and then we are gone. But here we are and now is the time to change the future. Not of a child, or a community, but the hearts of every man born on this earth. Every nation and every man lifted by the Spirit of God, united in Him. Glory be to God.
